Dragalia Lost, a role-playing game released by Cygames in partnership with Nintendo, will soon have its servers shut down. However, the game continues to receive content and will have confirmed updates until July 2022.
Launched in 2018, the game is still profitable today (according to Sensor Tower). It may not have a lot of downloads, but that's because the developer has limited the game to only certain regions.
Yes it's an RPG, and yes it's a gacha! Released on the heels of Fire Emblem Heroes, Dragalia Lost felt more like a surefire hit from Nintendo. However, that was not what happened.
So why end a game that is relatively successful? No one knows for sure the decision and the exact reason for the shutdown is questioned by fans to this day.
Apparently, Nintendo is not going to exclude the IP completely. It could be that a spinoff or sequel will be released in the near future.
